A Journey Into Prayer

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
James 4:8 (NKJV)
Prayer is one of the most talked about aspects of the Christian life, yet for many of us it can also be one of the most misunderstood.
We know we should pray.
We know prayer is important.
Yet sometimes prayer becomes little more than a list of requests, a routine we follow, or something we turn to only when life becomes difficult.
Recently, I have found myself thinking more deeply about prayer.
Not simply how to pray.
But why we pray.
If God already knows our needs, why does He invite us to pray?
If He knows our thoughts before we speak them, what is the purpose of coming before Him?
As I began studying Scripture, I noticed something remarkable.
Again and again, people came to God in prayer from very different circumstances.
Some came with fear.
Some came with grief.
Some came with questions.
Some came with thanksgiving.
Some came desperate for help.
Yet while their situations were different, there was often one thing they had in common:
Prayer changed them.
As they spent time in God’s presence, their faith grew.
Their perspective changed.
Their trust deepened.
Their relationship with God became stronger.
That has caused me to ask a simple question:
What if prayer is about more than getting answers?
What if prayer is one of God’s greatest gifts for building a relationship with Him?
Over the next seven days, I would like to invite you to join me on a journey through the Lord’s Prayer.
Not as a formula.
Not as a checklist.
But as an invitation into a deeper relationship with our Heavenly Father.
Together we will explore what Jesus taught about prayer and discover that prayer is not simply something we do.
Prayer is part of a relationship we cultivate with God.
My prayer is that by the end of this journey we will not only know more about prayer, but that we will know God more deeply.
Because the greatest purpose of prayer is not merely to receive something from God.
The greatest purpose of prayer is to know Him.
I hope you will join me as we take this journey together, one day at a time, drawing nearer to the heart of our Father and discovering the beauty of simply being in His presence.
